Day Labor Punishment for White Collar Crime
The focus of Timism is the Primary Moral Imperative of saving Life on Planet Earth from Climate Hell. In general, this means reducing the generation of unnecessary CO2. The proposed Re-Time/De-Time Brainbee will have voters prioritizing the shared sacrifices to stop climate change. These brainbees will let people on a global scale legislate and legitimize the reform or elimination of unneeded activities that contribute to climate hell.
One area of human activity that can have a smaller CO2 footprint is punishment for wrongful actions, e.g., breaking laws. For minor offenses, De-Electification has been proposed. Minor offenses that might require a period of incarceraton is replaced by removing the electricity supply from the offender's home. De-electrification is cheaper and quicker than incarceraton.
White-collar crimes reforms require a punishment with a lower CO2 footprint. As is, many white-collar criminals are sentenced to "country club" prisons, i.e., Club Feds. These white collar campuses have pleasant social amentities with no barb wire. The food, quarters and activities are beyond the means of most taxpayers who fund freedom lifestyles.
There may be "no honor among thieves"(Proverbs 21:10-1) but there is comfortable punishment. Why? Directly or indirectly, the biggest thieves of all make the laws on punishing the biggest thieves among us.
Most white-collar crimes involve non-violent theft. All theft steals the victim's time, directly or indirectly. If my car cost me $1,000 and I earn $10 an hour, its theft is a theft of 100 hours of my time. The incarceration time length depends on how much time was stolen by the wrong-doer. Incarceration goes from time-served to years to lifetime to execution--the ultimate time-taking.
Incarceration is a tit-for-tat, that is, you take our time and we will take your time. But, incarceration is also taxpayers' time being appropriated. The average annual prisoner cost is over $60,000.
Day Labor Incarceration
Timism proposes "Day Labor Incarceration." The convict is sentenced to working as a day laborer for a duration commensurate with the time stolen by the crime. A bank robber does not steal that much time compared to an embezzeling bank executive. Who gets worse incarceration?
During this servitude, all financial assets are frozen, that is, denied to the convict like a drug dealer. Like the ripped-off citizens, the criminal will have to live with less. Poetic justice: Let the white-collar thieves suffer the same fate as their victims in having a lower standard-of-living. Of course, the biggest thieves won't legislates Day Labor servitude: Habitual Politicians.
| Day Labor Indentured Servitude is Constitutional: The 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution, ratified in 1865, abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, with the exception of punishment for a crime after due conviction. (Googled "13th Amendment") |
Many of Timism's reforms are KISS: Keep It Simple, Stupid. De-electification and Walkfare simplify and economize the taxpayers' costs in a manner to encourage more responsible, personal asocial behavior. Complementing these two KISS's is Day Labor for white collar crime.
With Timism's Punishments of Timism of De-Electrification and Day Labor Servitude, we will have less crime, lower taxes, and smaller CO2 footprints. After a few execs are convicted and sentenced to day labor for ten years, there will be less white collar crime.
