Walkfare: An Inexpensive, efficient and economic solution to many social problems
Welfare is a major complaint of working tax-payers. While workers weekly work 40 or more hours, welfare recipients enjoy leisure time activities. A simple solution can reduce the workers' tax burden of people on the public dole.
Timism proposes "walkfare" in which recipients walk for their Electronic Benefit Transfer, a.k.a., Eat Better Tonight. A key element is installing EBT readers near elementary schools. Welfare recipients will walk from school to school where they insert the EBT card for some funds to be added. The amount of funds is tied to length of the walk. Drivers will lose benefits.
Currently, the monthly all-at-once EBT deposit is treated too often as a credit card that is used for non-food purchases. On the street, EBT cards are often lent at fifty cents on the dollar or traded for drugs. Personal experience has included a seven-year old child saying they eat out because there is no food at home a few days after the EBT deposit.
Walkfare does not require developing another politicized inefficient bureaucracy, e.g., workfare. The welfare system overall is hamstrung by workers "socially promoting" troublesome clients. If a recipient does not walk and swipe then there is no dough. All the elements are in place. Any old credit card reader can have a small Terminal Control Language(TCL) app added to transmit the swiped EBT card.
Other benefits will be reduced Medicare costs. Walkfarers will be healthier. One can also expect a reduction in unexpected babies added to the welfare rolls.. When their tax-funded leisure time is limited by walktime, many will conclude that is better to have worktime instead of walktime.
Walkfare can be integrated into other social needs. For instance, school students lacking in reading and math skills. They will have the choice of learning or walking. With the influx of volunteers from Timism's programs for healthcare costs and loan refinancings, tutors and proctors will be readily available for after-school and weekend learning.
A brainbee will be established to certified other uses of walkfare.
Job Idiots: Job Demagogues, Job Hoggers, and Job Myops
Each economy has an optimal workweek for stability. Over-workers take work from the under-worked. One cannot morally, economically or financially justify over-working by saying, "No one is going to tell me I cannot work as much as I want!" But that is what the job-hoggers are saying to those who cannot find work.
Yes, in principle, "If you teach a man to fish then you feed him for lifetime." Not true in an economy where politicians let some people monopolize jobs, e.g., Jim Crow says "You cannot fish."
Job-hoggers are foolishly working hours not for themselves but for food, shelter and healthcare of the jobless. The latter are not paying for their slice of the pie. There would be less petty crime if we had job-sharing. (As a victim of five robbery incidences, the crucial variable was not skin color but unemployment.)
"Share Job Time or Jobless Crime" has for decades been a Timism mantra. Furthermore, by better employing our human resources, Timism shows we can have a 24-hour workweek in 4 years with more funds and fun for self, family, and community in a safer, saner world: 24in4.
But job-sharing has become a more important factor in the number one crisis that is facing humanit[y: Climate Change. Every hour of pay beyond the cost of living is an hour of unneeded CO2 that is speeding up climate hell. The greater existential statement is Share Job Time or Share Climate Refugee Time. Job hoggers wanting a bigger truck are climate criminals compared to the homeless person. We will sleep in the beds we make.
Historical Notes
Walktime will be good for individuals, taxpayers and society.
